U.S.: American Airlines and American Eagle limited amount of baggage on flights to the Caribbean and Latin America

U.S. In anticipation of increased travel this holiday season and from cities in Latin America, Mexico and the Caribbean, American Airlines and American Eagle will implement once again the policy that limits the size and number of baggage to check in, both companies announced in a statement.

"The intention of American Airlines and American Eagle is to provide the best customer service and consider the needs of all passengers," said Peter Dolara, first vice president for the Caribbean and Latin America, says the bulletin issued by the airlines.

"There are limits on the amount of baggage that may both be carried in the cabin or in cargo, according to the size of the aircraft," he said, and explained that this provision will be effective from November 29 2008 to January 10 2009.

During this period, American will not accept boxes and luggage will be limited to two pieces of luggage to travel and to bring a piece by hand. The baggage and box embargo applies to the following destinations: Cali, Colombia; Tegucigalpa, Honduras; Medellin, Colombia; Kingston, Jamaica; Maracaibo, Venezuela.

It also includes Port-au-Prince, Haiti; La Paz, Bolivia, Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; Santa Cruz, Bolivia, Santiago, Dominican Republic, Quito, Ecuador, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, San Salvador, El Salvador, Guadalajara, Mexico; San Pedro Sula, Honduras and Mexico City.

This embargo is in addition to existing year-round for the boxes that carry passengers flying from or through the John F. Airport Kennedy of New York to all destinations in the Caribbean and Latin America.

The communication says that the excess baggage, size or with extra weight on it will not be accepted on flights whose destinations are restricted.

Passengers also will be limited to a maximum of two pieces of luggage to check, each not exceeding more than 50 pounds and 62 inches (1.57 meters) of linear size (the cumulative length, width and height of a piece of luggage) .

Additionally, will be allowed one piece of hand luggage, which should not exceed more than 40 pounds, and 45 linear inches in size.

You can also take a personal item like a purse or a portfolio. In turn, team sports such as golf clubs, bicycles and surfboards, are accepted as part of the total allowed baggage, though they may incur additional charges.
